"On Thursday night I had the most amazing experience, I tried something totally new and attended a Gong bath at Evolve in South Kensington. It was incredible! I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Around 5 people lay on mats under warm blankets listening and feeling the vibrations of these amazing gongs that were played by Gordon Coxon. It is an absolute experience, much more encompassing than Tibetan singing bowls which are usually attuned to a specific area of your body or chakra. The whole idea with the gong bath is one of cleansing, so that the vibrations from the gongs break through the mental and physical blocks in the body. I definitely found this to be the case with my body and mind, I felt the physical tightness in my right side dissolve totally. Gordon brought us to peaks of fear and at one point I felt as though there was this huge weight resting on my body, which just dissolved away with the vibrations of the gongs. It is most definitely an experience of self exploration, so hard to achieve in a space 45 minutes normally. I was left in this state of vibrational stillness, as though I glistened. It is truly an epic journey of experience, go and enjoy it...." ~ YogaTeacherinLondon.com |
"Having stayed up to endure the first day of the Ashes the evening prior, something to calm me down was what the doctor ordered. Gong Bath anyone? Whilst this isn’t a therapy I am familiar with, have previously contemplated or indeed ever heard of before, in the spirit of trying new things – I do have boundaries, mind – I signed myself up for the unknown, approaching it the way I should have approached the cricket; void of expectation.
Calm and relaxation greeted me at the reception, both at their most hospitable. Shoes off, I was shown the way to what was to be Evolve’s inaugural Gong Bath. In an intimate and cosy space, dimly lit, my fellow bathers and I were invited to get comfy with yoga mats, cushions and blankets available. At the front of the room sat two rather imposing-looking circular discs. Lying comfortably, as advised I closed my eyes…
Chimes sounding like trickling water drops sent me into a sedated state of semi-consciousness. Then the gonging started. So powerful, the gong’s reverberating tones left me deep in paralysis; neither wishing nor able to fight the force. Bathed in sound, I was on a journey floating somewhere but to where or what it involved didn’t matter. Pulsations and vibrations danced purposefully through me, disposing of stresses and angst as they resonated.
Filled by the gong’s energy, the room was immersed in timelessness, but for how long? Five minutes or five years, either seemed possible. Falling; transfixed; out of my mind; somewhere else; at ease; I was constantly in but out of control.
As the gong ceased to play, I awoke refreshed, relaxed, reinvigorated and amazed an hour had already passed.
Sometimes you just know you are going to enjoy something and that feeling was dancing and performing cartwheels inside me as soon as I arrived at Evolve. I’m not one for hyperbole but this was the most relaxing thing I have ever experienced.
For years I’ve ignored my mother – a lady more in touch with her spirituality than the Dalai Lama – about the value of things like this. Acknowledging my ignorance, I plead; go for a Gong Bath, people. The thought of someone not gaining from this practice is simply inconceivable to me." ~ TheLondonWord.com
